The success of our lovely magazine is always dependent on you, the reader, and also you, the writer! We love to hear from you with your ideas for articles and pieces, and they don’t all have to be long form. We can also accept short pieces and letters, as well as pictures and artwork – as long as they are all your own work, and not AI-generated.
These guidelines are here to help you shape your work so it lands well with our diverse community of initiates and practitioners. We welcome thoughtful, grounded writing that speaks to real experience, shared curiosity, and the living traditions of the Craft.
Deadlines
- Samhain issue: submissions due by the end of August
- Beltaine issue: submissions due by the end of March
What We’re Looking For
We love pieces that speak to the wider witchcraft community, including:
- Articles on Craft practice, history, folklore, nature, ethics, ritual, or spellcraft
- Long‑form essays or short personal pieces rooted in lived experience
- “How‑to” guides, interviews, lineage‑neutral reflections, or explorations of magical theory
- Book reviews
- Articles on Gender / LGBTQIA+ topics within witchcraft and pagan practice
- Artwork (illustration, photography, sigils, diagrams)
What We Don’t Accept
- Poetry
- Fiction
- Anything that would compromise initiatory oaths or reveal oathbound material (please write with care)
Length
- Up to 3,000 words
- Longer pieces are welcome if they’re a compelling read and come with illustrations. If its really long, we may ask you to consider splitting it into a series of two articles.
- Short pieces are equally welcomed.
Tone & Accessibility
We adore big ideas and deep thinking, but we’re not an academic journal. Please:
- Keep your writing accessible
- Avoid jargon unless you explain it
- Write in a way that welcomes initiates from all paths
Images & Artwork
- If you want an image placed in a specific part of your article, mark it clearly in the document (e.g., [Insert Image 1 here]).
- Send all images separately as JPEGs or similar formats.
- Images may need to move during layout, but we’ll keep the spirit of your placement in mind.
Editing
We do a light edit for clarity, flow, and house style, but:
- All edits are made respectfully
- We will consult with you on anything substantial
- Your voice remains your own
- We won’t be writing your article for you…
Advertising
We currently accept adverts, and in the near future we may introduce a small charge to help cover running costs. The Wiccan is a not‑for‑profit, volunteer‑run publication, and any advertising income will go directly into keeping us going. This covers things like mailing-list software.
How to Submit
- Send your article as a Word document or similar editable format
- Include your name (or pen name), a short bio, and any relevant links
- Attach images separately
